Is Scottsdale the right destination for you? Here are my experiences and thoughts on the area. Thanks to the warmth and dryness of the desert, this is a year-round destination; although fall and spring are certainly the most popular times to visit. Many of Scottsdale’s offerings are focused on health and wellness, with plenty of time spent outdoors, enjoying rejuvenating spa treatments, and discovering fresh, vibrant dining opportunities.
One thing I love about Scottsdale is the vibe that it carries. You’ll find that it has a refined feel without being at all stuffy. Adults will love the beautiful resorts, incredible dining, and great shopping. The Fairmont is home to Scottsdale’s premier spa, featuring Sisley Paris services. Golfers will be in heaven here with access to Scottsdale’s most iconic greens.

Children will love the sprawling pools, OdySea Aquarium, and McDowell Mountain Ranch Park & Aquatic Center. Another unique activity for families is the Medieval Times Dinner Show where guests view a jousting tournament as they feast on a themed, four-course meal. This really is a fun way to spend an evening. The show is surprisingly engaging and children really love to opportunity to visit with the horses once the show is complete.

The outdoor enthusiast will find no shortage of activities here. Nearby McDowell Sonoran Preserve offers 225 miles of trails, ranging from ADA-compliant paths to challenging hillside trails. For an exciting adventure, consider an off-road desert trail ride, guided by Jeep or Hummer. Some of these can even be combined with white-water rafting or hiking trips!

Enjoying striking views of the Sonoran desert as you ascend into the sky on a hot air balloon ride. One thing to keep in mind here is that you’ll need to be ready bright and early in order to catch your sunrise ride. For a more relaxed schedule, consider a sunset ride instead.
My accommodation recommendation would be the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, which is where I stayed on my last trip to Arizona. This AAA five-diamond resort serves guests with incredible care, combining the comforts of home with all of the luxurious amenities you expect while traveling. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by Spanish-colonial architecture, expansive plazas, and locally-inspired art. There are four delicious restaurants on-site with an additional bar and in-room dining available as well. Definitely check out La Hacienda. This fun, outdoor restaurant has a great dish called Carnitas Hacienda - not to be missed. For off-site dining, head to Pizzeria Virtu or The Mexicano, or for a fine dining experience consider Cafe Monarch. Here you’ll have the option to choose between a four or eight-course chef’s tasting dining experience.
What really sets this resort apart is its seasonal events and activities. Celebrate Independence Day at the annual 4th of July Freedom Fest, featuring poolside fun, a vintage air show, a concert, military tributes, and a firework show to close out the holiday. As winter approaches, the resort transforms into a winter wonderland, where guests can enjoy more than 6.5 million twinkling lights, ice skating in the desert, and a show each evening. Spring ushers in warmer temperatures and hosts of bright activities including an Easter egg hunt, special Easter dining events, and later an exquisite Mother’s Day brunch.

Scottsdale is a great destination for multi-generational vacations. You’ll find many lovely home and villa rentals that provide the perfect landing place for large groups. These sprawling properties often feature incredible pools and open gathering spaces. Select rentals give guests the option to bring in a chef or golf instructor, and a few can even arrange for private spa treatments. If you’re hoping to prepare your own meals, you’ll be happy to know that groceries can be stocked and waiting for you upon your arrival.

If you’re looking for a relaxed vacation that’s sure to be sunny and warm, this might be a great pick for you. While there are activities to fill your time, you likely won’t experience the hectic feeling of having to pack in a long list of attractions each day. I would say that Scottsdale offers a pleasantly laid-back schedule with a markedly sunny atmosphere. Things are very upbeat and you’ll find a nice blend of couples and families in most areas. Overall it’s a great fit for those desiring a slightly slower pace with numerous chances to spend quality time with loved ones.
